The carbon footprint from lighting a regular apartment building can be reduced by 85 percent by replacing all incandescent light bulbs for new led gu10 bulbs. But even if you are not the environmental type of person and don’t give a rats ass about the future of the planet, you do realize that this 85 percent reduction comes from burning less energy which also means that you will have to pay less for your electric bill.
I am definitely sure that I want to take as much care about the planet as a person in my situation can, and I constantly strive to reduce my carbon footprint by recycling as much wasted material as possible, but lately I have also replaced all my regular light bulb mounts and introduced the led gu10 bulbs and mounts. Even though the LED lights were not efficient enough at the turn of the century, in 2011 the market has seen led gu10 bulbs with a very high efficiency, up to 150 lm/W whereas the more popular replacements for the plain incandescent bulbs, the compact fluorescent lights average at around 60 lm/W.
A big advantage of the led gu10 bulbs, however, is that they are much more resistant to shock and environment issues like heat or cold than the CFL’s. Many car producers like Audi have implemented LED lights for daytime driving which are visible from much further away than the conventional headlights when it is bright outside. This emerging technology is bound to become standard one day.
